Good Music

Recently, I posted a few tracks that made me sick to my stomach. Since then I’ve decided I am no longer going to listen to that stuff (or post about it), it’s not worth it. I end up listening to it and then want to shoot myself in the foot so I stop thinking about it. Also, I don’t think anyone that reads my blog appreciates that music, even if you do, too bad.

Since I posted a few tracks that I really disliked (and probably made you puke in your mouth a little bit) I thought I’d do you guys a favor and give your ears a little treat. Below are a few songs that I like and I think you will too.

The1Shanti – It’s That Time

Straight outta Brooklyn, The1shanti is droppin’ some knowledge when he spits. I’ve listened to a handful of his tracks and enjoy almost all of them. “Played your hand, bitch! Now I’m callin’ it!” (I love that line). I’ll post more of his music soon.

Kidd Skilly – Undercover Superstar

I know Skilly has made some tracks that a lot of us don’t really care for, but there are many reasons why I support his music and this track is one of them. I posted this particular version of the track because it has his lyrics; hopefully you can listen and read at the same time. He spits some real shit with creative word play. This isn’t my favorite Skilly track but I think it is one of his better ones. Peep it.

Two more tracks you guys should check out.

The1shanti – Nothing
Kidd Skilly – Indian Dance

I just noticed none of these tracks are really “Urban Desi”. The artists are so I guess that will have to do.

Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

  1. The1shanti, first off, stupidest name ever. Second, he's OK, I got annoyed real quick.

Skilly, in the words of my boy Larry David, "pretty pretty pretty good." I enjoyed both tracks, Indian Dance a lot more. Don't know how you can't like that track with the Pistons them song to kick it off. Undercover Superstar definitely has some good lyrics (seeing them on screen helps), but I prefer Indian Dance, all opinion. In both cases I thought he did a good job riding the beat. I was about to write why the hell would you go to the autotune if you have this kind of material at hand, but then I remembered that in any industry, you have to please your audience. More Skilly listeners should take time away from his dance/bhangra style music and listen to these tracks.

  2. In relation to the "are you serious" post...these songs are much better. The1shanti guy's music is actually pretty good, something I was able to listen to all the way to the end. I thought Indian Dance was one of Kidd Skilly's better tracks, something that's more in line with my music preference as well. Speaking of which, and hopefully this doesn't put anyone in hot water, but I don't know if you heard Skilly's "unreleased" version of the song he did with Akon, but the beat they had with that track was something that I could bump in my playlist all the time (IMO, better than the version that was released). Yeah i get that insider connect...but that's one of the only reasons I pay attention to the "urban desi" scene anyway.
